What has happened to Australia's economy - Australia isn't the paradise some people think it is

I wasn't going to post anymore about Australia, and just be grateful for my great life in Thailand, but this video explains better than I ever could about why Australia's economy is a mess and why Australia isn't the paradise some people think.

Long explanation short, over the past 20 years, Australia's population has increased by roughly 30%, and both major political parties in Australia didn't build enough public housing, hence landlords can set premium prices for renting some shithole.

Because people have to spend so much of their income on high rent costs and the increasing costs of everything else, which are going up faster than salaries, people don't have much money for shopping and eating out, and businesses are dying.

In the late 90's, Australia had good internet access, but now Australia's internet speed is ranked lower than 70th in the world, behind some African countries. In Australia, I would wait 30 minutes for a train, where as in BKK, Singapore and Tokyo, people wait 30 seconds to 2 minutes for a train.

I see more homeless people in Australia now than what I see in Thailand, and when I was growing up in Australia, the thought of children going hungry was unthinkable, now it happens all the time.

The video explains Australia has been in an economic stagnation since 2010. Ive told many people 2010 was a rough year for me, because I saw my father's house value had gone up over 400 000 AUD in 2010, compared to 120 000 AUD in 1997, and his salary hadn't even doubled.

At the time, I was in the process of trying to get Thai citizenship, and I needed to be in Australia during the process, my mental health wasn't great, so my employer wanted me to talk to a psychologist because my boss said we are so lucky to be able to see a psychologist for free in Australia.

I talked to 3 Australian female psychologists, the first one yelled at me when I told her Thailand now has universal healthcare, as well as faster internet speed and better public transport than Australia and accused me of lying. She actually started breathing heavily and said "I don't know what you're talking about", in an angry voice and was very condescending. At this moment I knew I really needed to get out of Australia because it was becoming like a cult, with the "Australia being the lucky country" way of thinking.

The 2nd psychologist told me I should find a woman in Australia and me and her can rent a house together and share half the cost of rent. The 3rd psychologist did a group session with me, and she took a jab at me saying "you don't like Australia but you like our money", because I told her I had enough money to buy a house in Thailand right now, and after I got Thai citizenship I would do that.

People in the group waffled on about how lucky we are to live in Australia.

These 3 Australian female psychologists were supposed to be the "good guys" and "educated and professional", but they made my mental health worse, not better, simply because I no longer believed in "Australia is the lucky country" mantra.

Still in 2010, many people in Australia told me there's nothing wrong with renting a house your whole life, and gave me BS reasons why renting a house is better than owning a house, such as "maintaining a house costs more than renting one".

Or, find friends or a woman in Australia to share the cost of rent with.

Anyways, that's why Australia is in the situation it's in now, and many Australians need to keep living with an ex partner because they can't afford to live alone, even if their ex partner has a new partner, or they need to find 1 or 2 people to live with and share the cost of rent.
