Songkran, the last 2 years.
Songkran is one of my favorite times of the year. Family get-together, nice food, water fights all over Thailand and seeing pretty Thai women soaked to the point her shirt is see through, or some women just wear a bra or corset outside when they're playing.
This photo was taken Songkran 2023.
This photo of the Isan dance girls taken during Songkran this year.
Songkran is not for everyone, many farang say they don't like it. Fine, they can think what they want but when they get angry when somebody wets them, the question is why come to Thailand during if you don't like it? It would be like me going to a Muslim country and complaining about Ramadhan.
One of the fun things I like doing during Songkran is finding the most expensive water guns I can find. I used to assume the more expensive the water gun is, the further and more powerful it can shoot. That's not necessarily the case, as I bought my wife a water gun for 110 baht, and it shot just as far as my 400 baht water gun, with nearly the same amount of power. It was much lighter than the 400 baht gun, but it didn't hold as much water and the 400 baht gun looks big and menacing.
Here's the 110 baht gun and 400 baht gun below.
Below, here is my son during last year on Songkran. The blue shirt, gun and hat wasn't planned, I bought the blue gun for him days before his mother dressed him.
The double barrel gun was another 400 baht gun and reliable, it lasted over a year, but my son and nieces broke it's pump right before Songkran this year.
I also gave in and bought a 590 baht electric water gun. It shot powerful, constant blasts of water, but it used up its water supply quickly. I let my son have it, and I don't have a photo of it, but I use it on one of my Songkran YouTube videos.
The most expensive water gun I saw and bought last year was over 600 baht. A copy of the Super Soaker 2000. It shot thick streams of water but stopped working before Songkran started.
Most water guns I've bought will either stop working during the 3 days of Songkran or right after Songkran.
So yeah, Songkran is like a Battle Royale with water guns and buckets of water, and you can shoot from moving pick up trucks to gain advantages of higher ground and speed.
If you plan on visiting Thailand, why not give Songkran a try? It's wild fun and different to any festival from western culture, and if you're a single guy, you'll like it even more.
